Seven seasons into its run, Hawaii Five-0 continues to surf the light fantastic. Long past being just a reboot of a beloved series, the show regularly makes the weekly list of Top 10 shows in Canada. In the U.S., its muscle is fortified by an average of nine million viewers.
The April 28 episode, Wehe ‘ana (Prelude), revealed Danny’s (Scott Caan), life before he met Steve (Alex O’Loughlin), – a storyline that took the show to No. 8 north of the border. In Friday’s episode, the season 7 finale, the team investigates a sex-trafficking ring involving young girls. It could also mark the beginning of the end for O’Loughlin, who told Collider he intended to leave the show after season 8.
“I’ve decided. Beyond anything else, I don’t want to do any more because I don’t want to kill it. It’s still got some magic left in it … It’s hard to keep it fun and new, each day. I’m worried that I won’t even be able to do that until the end of Season 8, but I’m going to keep swinging until I’m in the box,” he said.
“The other thing is that physically, I’ve had a lot of injuries. I’ve been hurt really badly on this show. I’ve now got some serious back issues, which I’m going back and forth to California to deal with … I don’t think I can physically do any more than eight years.”
Elsewhere in the ratings, the usual suspects popped up — The Big Bang Theory, Survivor and Designated Survivor were the three most-watched shows. In individual markets, Big Bang won out in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area.
