Television viewers are taking Bull by the horns, making it one of the most successful new shows of the 2016-17 season.
The CBS drama is based on Phil McGraw — before he was Dr. Phil, back when he was a trial consultant — and stars Michael Weatherly in his first show since leaving NCIS. (The Weatherly-less NCIS, incidentally, also airs on CBS and often lands among the Top 10 shows in Canada.)
Bull earned a full-season pickup after just three episodes and averages a robust 12.7 million weekly viewers in the U.S. This week it’s sitting pretty in the No. 4 spot in Canada, for the Jan. 17 episode Teacher’s Pet, about a student-teacher romance.
In fact, CBS is still putting up rival-crushing ratings, with its shows The Big Bang Theory and Blue Bloods also in the Top 10. Elsewhere, the devil-among-us series Lucifer once again did well in Canada and homegrown period drama Murdoch Mysteries fell just short of the Top 10, along with the People’s Choice Awards.
Across the country, The Big Bang Theory reigned supreme in all the major local markets — Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area — with the Jan. 19 episode The Romance Recalibration.
